Make it stand out.
KUKU’s story is one of family, flavor, and a touch of techie ingenuity. Reza, the founder of KUKU, isn't your average restaurant owner. Before becoming a “Chef” at KUKU, he spent his career building tech startups during the Dotcom boom. After immigrating to the US from Iran, he missed the taste of his grandmother's (Maman Joon's) cooking but replicating those dishes proved tricky.
Persian home cooking is all about intuition, a special touch passed down through generations – something no recipe book could ever teach. That didn't stop Reza, though. He'd call his mom in Iran, asking not for precise recipes, but for that "gut feeling" that makes Persian home cooking so unique. It was a delicious experiment, filled with trials (and maybe some smoke alarms!), until finally, Reza bottled Maman Joon's magic in his own kitchen.
But this wasn't meant to be a solo act. Reza joined forces with Amir, a longtime friend and fellow Iranian immigrant who's called LA home for decades. Together, their combined experiences – Reza's fresh perspective and Amir's deep LA roots – found a charming "hole-in-the-wall" spot in Inglewood. Kuku was born – a place offering perfected Persian family recipes in a warm and welcoming space.
